“Starting in 1964 with the “Boîtes” series, Gérard Schlosser introduced the use of color into his work, which had been limited to black and white since his discovery of Beckett’s play, “Waiting for Godot”, 1953. His painting then becomes figurative. It juxtaposes disparate everyday objects (a questioning of the consumer society, comparable to Warhol's “Brillo Boxes” and Arman's workshop “Poubelles” which also date from 1964), and pieces of anatomy, here a female bust. This series, an essential milestone in the evolution of Schlosser's work, contains the germ of a state of his painting to come: the close-up of an anatomical part where the detail becomes the primordial element of the painting in relation to the periphery which does not it is there only to situate the intimate scene very often as indicated by framing and zoom. »
